Tasting Notes

Color

Deep golden amber.

Aroma

Bright, juicy tangerine jumps out of the glass, supported by soft vanilla and caramel. There is a clear but well-behaved Jamaican fruitiness in the background — a hint of banana and tropical esters without becoming heavy or funky. A very light salty breeze runs underneath, giving the nose lift and freshness.

Palate

Gently sweet, light and smooth. Warm alcohol is quickly wrapped in ripe tangerine and soft butterscotch. The texture is round and almost buttery, with caramel and citrus playing together rather than competing. The fruit feels like freshly peeled mandarins rather than artificial candy.

Finish

Short to medium in length, sweet and fruity. The impression is that of a sun-drenched citrus orchard fading slowly from the palate.

Overall Impression

An easy-drinking, fruit-forward rum spirit. Perfect neat or on the rocks, and a great base for drinks like a “Jamaica Libre”, Rum Sour or simple long drinks where citrus brightness is the star.

Product Description

The sailing training ship Gorch Fock of the German Navy is known worldwide for its sailing performance and beauty. Prospective naval officers collect their first nautical miles on the Gorch Fock and undergo tough and demanding training.

Our skipper David also collected his first formative nautical miles under sail on the Gorch Fock. In addition to having his first experiences on board a sailing ship, overcoming his fear of heights in the company of good comrades, it was there that he also drank rum for the first time. The ritual in which the crew gets their ration of rum after successful training is really a special "Manöverschluck." On the Gorch Fock, however, the ritual is not called Manöverschluck but "Besanschot an."

The content of the Gorch Fock design edition is the same as in the Manöverschluck Jamaika: delicious rum from Jamaica refined with butterscotch and sun-ripened tangerines.

We love to sail ourselves. David preferably on the Baltic Sea and Jens in the Mediterranean. During a joint sailing trip, we came up with the idea for a new favorite drink. This became JJs Manöverschluck.
